Skittles gave birth to a litter of 13 gorgeous babies, sadly the runt (who was less then half the size of a normal baby rat at birth) passed after a day! The remaining litter of 12 has 8 girls, 4 boys. There are 7 black selfs! in the litter (and most are really good selfs), 2 russian blues, 2 black eyed seal point siamese, and 1 black eyed russian blue siamese. Babies are almost 3 weeks old as I am writing this, and although they were born about two weeks into an SDA outbreak in the rattery, they are doing wonderfully. They have shown no signs/symptoms of illness and I expect they will stay free & clear even after weaning since now everyone has been symptom free for several weeks. Due to the virus possibly being carried by the babies however, I will have to monitor them for several weeks after they are weaned to make sure no symptoms arise once they "lose" mom's antibodies. As long as they are symptom free at that point, they can go to homes that are currently rat free. For babies that are destined to go to new homes that currently have rats, they will have to wait a few extra weeks until the quarantine is fully complete. Currently the babies are hoppy, playful, and extremely sweet! |
